Victorian Healthy Eating Enterprise

The Victorian Healthy Eating Enterprise (VHEE) is a State Government initiative to support disease prevention in Victoria.  VHEE is a partnership with local government, business, industry, health professionals and communities.

VHEE is founded on a Healthy Food Charter which guides the healthy eating message across Victoria. Organisations are encouraged to use the Charter to communicate clear and consistent healthy eating messages in all policy, programs and community events.

The five pillars of the charter are:

  • Easy (accessible ingredients and recipes)
  • Fresh (fruit and veg in every meal/snack)
  • Balanced (eat a range of foods from core food groups)
  • Healthy (limit unhealthy foods, practice portion control and drink water)
  • Connected (share food, use local, seasonal foods, reduce waste, promote access and connect with diverse cultures and communities).

According to the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) approximately 93 per cent of us do not eat enough fruit or vegetables, placing over 60 per cent of us at a medium to high risk of chronic disease.

The vision of the Victorian Healthy Eating Enterprise (VHEE) is to improve the health and wellbeing of Victorians through food and it provides a coordinated platform to support healthy eating and promote access to nutritious food.

VHEE Objectives

As outlined in the Healthy Food Charter, the VHEE works to :

  • promote consumption of fresh fruit and vegetables
  • reduce consumption of energy-dense and nutrient-poor food and drinks
  • reduce consumption of salt and saturated and trans fats
  • improve breastfeeding rates and maternal and infant nutrition
  • increase the proportion of children and adults in the healthy weight range
  • promote enjoyment of healthy foods
  • improve access to nutritious food.

The VHEE hosts an annual Food Forum.  The 2018 Food Forum will be held Tuesday 19 June.
