Welcome to the first birthday e-newsletter from the Victorian Rural Women’s Network. It’s an exciting milestone for the much-loved network, which was re-established last year thanks to the Victorian Government’s $1.7 million investment.
The network has had a busy year helping to connect women, forge collaborations between women from diverse backgrounds and industries, and promoting many of their exciting achievements.
A key focus has been boosting social media engagement to better connect rural women and reducing distance and disconnection for women living in isolated areas. The network, which now boasts more than 970 subscribers and counting, launched its website, Facebook and Twitter sites, saw more than 16,500 webpage views, and the distribution of 11 news and event updates.
The network distributed five issues of its network e-newsletter, highlighting mentoring and leadership opportunities and providing important information about upskilling and personal health and wellbeing. It also shared many inspiring stories celebrating the challenges and successes of rural and regional women.
This year marked the formation of the Victorian Rural Women’s Network Reference Group which comprises 18 highly regarded rural and regional members who are helping shape the network’s future. The reference group, who came together for the first time in March on International Women’s Day, includes key leaders and innovators from a wide variety of professional backgrounds.
Looking ahead, the network is excited to announce the first ever Rural Women’s Forum, an exciting two-day networking event, headlined by inspiring keynote speakers and packed with practical and interactive workshops focused around the theme ‘Celebrate, connect, collaborate’. The event will take place at RACV Goldfields Resort, Creswick, on 2 and 3 August. I will be attending and hope to meet many of you there.
I look forward to seeing the network continue to grow and thrive as it works to inspire and connect rural women across Victoria.
