Summer Song, NSW DPI
Summer (Xinxin) Song is the Project Officer of the Digital Agriculture team of NSW Department of Primary Industries. She is responsible for managing trials in cherry orchards assessing the impacts of plastic cover/netting on microclimate and then cherry quality and yield. The use of protected cover is a practice that can help growers adapt to climate change. Agricultural technologies, such as sensors measuring temperature, humidity and soil moisture, are used in the trials to collect relevant data.
Prior to this, she was a research fellow at Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture and conducted research to understand irrigation decisions of horticultural growers and their adoption of technologies for irrigation management.
She is passionate about supporting on-farm practice change that leads to improved business management.
Summer holds a PhD and Master of Agricultural Science.
