Gippsland Advanced Farm Manager Study Tour

As climate variability and drought risks intensify, Gippsland farmers are stepping up to lead the charge toward resilience. In Autumn 2025, 20 producers representing the wool, beef, dairy, sheep, and poultry sectors embarked on the Gippsland Farm Study Tour – a 5-day immersive experience through northern New South Wales. This initiative aimed to empower farm leaders, strengthen business resilience, and foster adaptive capacity in the face of mounting challenges.

Why build a Community of Practice?
The tour was designed to create a network of informed, collaborative agricultural professionals who could share knowledge and drive change. Participants were selected for their influence within their communities and their potential to support others during drought and challenging seasons.

The itinerary featured visits to leading enterprises in the New England region, showcasing innovative approaches to feed security, soil health, and system flexibility. Key themes included advanced feed systems, strategic business planning, technology adoption, biodiversity integration, and supply chain transparency. Through site visits, expert presentations, and peer-to-peer discussions, farmers gained practical insights and renewed confidence in decision-making.

What were the impacts and outcomes of the tour?
Beyond technical knowledge, the tour fostered camaraderie and a shared vision for resilience. Participants reported increased confidence, a broader understanding of strategic investment, and a commitment to mentoring others. A strong network emerged – one that will continue to support Gippsland agriculture through future challenges.
