Shefat Rahman joined Agriculture Victoria in June 2024 as a Project Officer in the Biosecurity and Agriculture Services division. Prior to this role, Shefat was a Wheat Breeder at BASF Australia Ltd, based in Horsham, where he successfully led initiatives to develop high-yielding, disease-resistant wheat varieties.

Shefat holds a PhD and M. Phil in Genetics and Plant Breeding from the University of Adelaide, Australia. His doctoral research focused on investigating root lesion nematode resistance in wheat from genetic, pathological, and biochemical perspectives. Through this project, Shefat identified key resistance genes, developed molecular markers, and advanced the understanding of host-pathogen interactions, contributing significantly to the development of disease-resistant crops.
