Consultation on the draft Victorian Transmission Plan Guidelines

When: July 26 @ 3:00 pm - August 25 @ 11:59 pm
Organiser: VicGrid

VicGrid has launched the Victorian Government’s draft Victorian Transmission Plan Guidelines, a document that explains how they will prepare the Victorian Transmission Plan – a new long-term strategic plan for renewable energy and transmission development in our State.

The plan will ensure they build the right amount of energy infrastructure in the right places at the right time, to support a smooth transition to renewables as ageing coal-fired power stations retire.

Our goal is to keep the lights on and deliver reliable, affordable power to Victorians, while minimising impacts on communities and the environment.

They will produce a Victorian Transmission Plan in 2025, 2027 and then every four years. They are getting ready to prepare the first one, the 2025 Victorian Transmission Plan, which will consider Victoria’s energy needs over the next 15 years.

The draft Victorian Transmission Plan Guidelines outline how they will determine how much renewable energy generation is needed and when, as well as how they will determine what transmission projects are needed to support that new generation.

It also includes a study area (a map) showing what parts of Victoria they may investigate further for suitability to host future renewable energy zones.

Engagement with First Peoples, communities, landholders and stakeholders is central to this work.

Consultation on the draft Victorian Transmission Plan Guidelines is open on Engage Victoria and will close at 11:59 pm on Sunday 25 August 2024.

VicGird is also inviting feedback about the study area until 30 September 2024.

They are holding community drop-in sessions across Victoria between now and 25 August, to walk through the guidelines and study area, and take on feedback. They will also be hosting community webinars online.
