Coming soon – Farm Development tool

The hardest thing for small scale producers to navigate now has a tool to help – and it’s free.

Soon to be released the DPIRD Agriculture Poultry Farm Development Tool makes it easier to navigate development application processes.

The tool enables you to input information about your farm and the proposed poultry development and identifies issues with the plan related to the rules and permissibility’s in NSW. A report is generated that helps to understand any issues and can be used by producers to assist discussions with Council or planning consultants.

Producers can use the tools mapping function to draw features, such as proposed shed location, and test alternative sites within the farm to check if different planning issues apply.  The tool will highlight in red, amber or green the risk level for each location proposed on the site. By using this feature producers can potentially find ways to help make the pathway to a DA easier.

The land use planning team are keen to test the tool with poultry farmers (either egg or meat) looking to start new farms or to submit development proposals for existing businesses. Feedback from farmers will be invaluable to improve the refine the tool.
