Biosecurity (Salmonella Enteritidis) Control Order extended

Note: This Biosecurity (Salmonella Enteritidis) Control Order 2024 has now been superceded. Food safety requirements for egg have been updated in the NSW Food Regulation 2025 – How to comply with Schedule 8 – control of Salmonella Enteritidis). Refer to article ‘Permanent measures for managing Salmonella Enteritidis in NSW’ on this website.

Human illness caused by Salmonella Enteritidis (SE) continues to remain an ongoing threat in NSW and other states.

As a result, the NSW Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development in conjunction with the NSW Food Authority has extended the existing Biosecurity (Salmonella Enteritidis) Control Order for a further 12 months. This is strictly a time-based extension to maintain existing measures and no further changes have been made to the Control Order.

How to Comply the Control Order includes a practical guide for poultry producers on requirements and how to meet them. The guide includes information for how to swab mobile poultry sheds to collect the swabs required under the mandatory sampling requirements.
