The FRDC established an Extension Officer Network in mid-2022. One Extension Officer was appointed in each State and Territory, tasked with engaging directly with individuals and organisations involved in fishing and aquaculture. The purpose of the network is to help support innovation across the seafood industry, including:

• Consulting with fishers and other stakeholders to identify research and development problems and needs, and to seek related opportunities and solutions
• Informing FRDC’s investment priority development based on the needs of fishers and other stakeholders
• Providing extension advice and assistance, including project design for impact to researchers and others on proposed and existing FRDC funded investments
• Facilitating the extension and adoption  of findings and outcomes from FRDC funded investments, as well as from other sources of science-based knowledge
• Building extension capability and capacity across the seafood industry
