This year’s theme for International Women’s day is #PressforProgress,  that encourages women to keep up the global momentum for gender equality inspired by recent movements like #MeToo and #TimesUp.

The IWD theme fits well with the United Nations’ theme for 2018 of ‘Leave no woman behind’, that examines the vital role women play in humanitarian and disaster planning and response. The UN theme aims to explore the impacts disasters have on women and girls, and highlights the important roles women play in risk reduction, rebuilding, rehabilitation and peace processes.

Women’s knowledge and expertise as leaders on planning for and responding to disasters and conflict can help protect and empower women and girls so they can survive and thrive.
