GippsDairy and Agriculture Victoria invite you to join us for an on-farm day with Matt Harms to explore biodigestion. This day will begin at the Ellinbank SmartFarm where we will hear about their research projects on biodigestion, wind, and solar, focusing on their on-farm practicalities.

We will then travel by bus to a local piggery where a biodigester has been successfully operating for over 5 years.

Since implementing the biodigester, energy costs have significantly reduced by converting effluent into electricity and heating. Enough power is generated to supply the site, with the excess energy sold back into the grid. Waste heat from the generator is also used to heat water, which is then used to heat on-farm infrastructure.

The biodigester has also reduced up to 80 per cent of odour emitted from the farm, which has improved the environment for staff and neighbours.

*Due to strict biosecurity measures, entry to the piggery is only possible via the bus. Therefore, registration is essential as numbers are limited.*
