Dr Mel Taylor is a UK-qualified Occupational Psychologist based in the School of Psychology at Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia. Her research focusses on low probability, high consequence events such as pandemics, terrorism, emergency animal diseases, and disasters. Her core areas of research interest are psychosocial response and recovery, uptake of biosecurity practices and health protective behaviours, and risk communication strategies. 

Mel is a project leader on two projects in the Bushfire and Natural Hazards Cooperative Research Centre; one on animal emergency management, and another on flood risk communication. In addition to recent social research with NSW DPI and Charles Sturt University focussed on the biosecurity practices of small landholders in Greater Sydney, Mel has led several social research projects in the area of biosecurity; including research with horse owners and their responses to Equine Influenza and Hendra virus, and research with sheep producers and their practices in the context of Ovine Johnes Disease.
