About

Led by Agriculture Victoria experts, the extensionAUS Soil Moisture Monitoring site provides the most recent, relevant and accurate information on soil moisture monitoring within the Victorian agricultural sector.

Monitoring a farm’s soil moisture can help to take a lot of guess-work out of estimating a crop’s potential yield. By adding this crucial dimension to measuring what is going on under the surface, farmers have access to information that can give a sense of how much water is stored for the growing season and even how their crops respond to rainfall events in their specific soil type(s).

The Agriculture Victoria Soil Moisture Probe network was established ten years ago. The network has expanded to include probes in not only broadacre cropping paddocks, but sheep, cattle and dairy systems as well.
