ATL Commercial Ltd are proud to have been selected by Australia Bay Seafoods to supply, install and Commission the full Marine Electronics package on the new vessel FV Australia Bay. The new vessel has recently arrived in the home Port of Darwin, after construction, commissioning and sea trials in Vietnam. Initial discussions commenced in 2022 with Mike Obrien from Australia Bay for the supply, and electronic design work for the new Trawler. A full Electronics package consisting of Navigation, Fish finding, Communication, Entertainment, Bridge Console, CCTV, VMS has been supplied with full design, drawings and wiring arrangement services supplied within the Contract.

Technology Showcase
FV Australia Bay is equipped with the latest in fish finding and trawl monitoring technology, featuring the advanced SIMRAD Kongsberg ES80 echo sounder. This high performance system uses a quad frequency composite transducer operating at 38, 70, 120 and 200 kilohertz, allowing the captain to choose the most effective frequency for the target species, water depth and fishing conditions to maximise catch performance.
“The vessel is also the first in Australia to be fitted with the new SIMRAD TP90 Trawl Positioning System”, said ALT.
This groundbreaking system provides the captain with accurate real time positioning of the trawl gear in relation to both the vessel and the seabed. Using door spread sensors mounted on the trawl doors, the TP90 system sends distance and bearing information back to the vessel. This data is then displayed on the onboard charting systems and the ES80, enabling the captain to see exactly where the trawl is in relation to fish schools and bottom terrain.
This level of precision allows for significant improvements in operational efficiency, including reduced fuel use, lower risk of gear damage and better time management. By ensuring the trawl is in the most productive position, the system helps improve catch rates and supports more sustainable fishing practices.
