Denise Bewsell
| I’ve worked in the primary sector for over 25 years, in many roles, including extension officer, facilitator, extension researcher, extension programme designer and evaluator. Extension has been a constant in my work. I think that at the heart of any project is people and understanding their responses to change will help ensure that we can work effectively with them.
At the moment I’m focused on working with a range of people to integrate extension thinking into research practice (the Research for Impact project led by Hort Innovation), as well as a supporting the design and evaluation of extension projects across the primary sector in New Zealand. I like making connections, helping others do the same, the idea of topping up, not tipping in when working in extension (courtesy of Lab Wilson from Bats Inc), being curious, asking questions and chocolate! I have a Masters in Commerce and Management from Lincoln University and a Bachelor of Agricultural Science from The University of Melbourne. My Masters work explored the concept of involvement in people’s response to information. I’m a long-time member of the Australasia Pacific Extension Network (APEN), an organisation for extension professionals working with people to enable change and innovation in the primary industries, natural resource management and communities.
